Protection

I was running late. I had a class at Mid-America Nazarene Univ. in Olathe at 9AM, a 40 mile drive. It was about 8:30. I headed for I-435, the fastest way. It looped around Kansas City into Kansas. It was after the rush hour and even though it was foggy, traffic was moving fairly well.

I was going south across the Missouri River. I was pushing it. I knew it. Suddenly I came out of the fog into a clear space! It took a second to register that there was a car directly in front of me going much slower! My mind quickly calculated the speed I was going and the distance closing fast! I knew there was no way to avoid it! I didn't have time to change lanes! Not knowing anything I could possibly do, I closed my eyes and prepared for the impact that was seconds away!

When I opened my eyes, I was back in the fog! What happened? There was no collision! Was I imagining the car in front of me? How could I have missed it? There was no way I could have! My mind was spinning! Did God vaporize the car and I went through it? Did angels propel me over it?

As I calmed down I came to a conclusion. God had performed a miracle and saved my life! Another question I will have when I see Him. It may not be important when I see Him but now, 30 years later, it is still indelibly imprinted in my mind.

I can think of six other incidents since then in which I believe He either saved my life or kept me from serious injury.

I remember reading a book, can't remember the title or author, but in it he talked about God's protection of His children. He said, if he could, Satan would kill every Christian on the highway or by some other means. We are protected all the time. If I ever had a doubt about that, it was gone after this miracle.

I have come to believe that if God wants you to stay, nothing can take you out of this world ... If God wants you to leave, nothing can keep you here ... The only thing that can override this is your free will to terminate yourself which is an ultimate power play to become your own god.
